Seattle and its magic.

Seattle and its magic.

Sometimes we need to disconnect from our daily routine, and that’s what my best friend tried to do for me, she wanted me to disconnect from my routine. So, she called me and told me that she had booked a flight for me to go and visit her and her boyfriend in Seattle!!! She did not mention it before, she just went ahead and did it, and that’s the best thing that she could have done because if she had asked me for a date, I would have said that I was busy until September. But that’s the reason why we all have a friend, right? Because they know you so well that they know how you are going to react to pretty much any situation. My weekend getaway started on a Thursday morning, I got to the airport 3 hours before the flight (way too early I know) but I did not want to take the chance of having any issues with my luggage, ticketing or finding the door on time. I sat right next to the boarding gate, and while I was waiting, I kept working on assignments for school. After a 7 hours flight, I was finally in Seattle. I could not help but see how everything was so different. My friend and her boyfriend were waiting for me at the airport, it had been two years and a half years since I saw her. It was raining, but I was so excited that I did not care! The airport is located in Tacoma which is a small city 40 minutes away from Seattle.  When we got to Seattle, the first thing that I saw was the Starbucks headquarters. I was so impressed, there was a Starbucks in every corner, and one of the craziest things was that every single one of them had customers. That was the beginning of the journey.

There are so many things to do, and I had so little time. So, I’m here to tell you the best places to visit in Seattle in 2 days (because if I am honest, that’s all that I had). So, let’s get into it:

  • Space Needle: This is a must if you are visiting Seattle. This incredible building was built between 1961 and 1962. You can either drive over there or take a little monorail that you can choose from downtown Seattle, and it will drop you off right in front of the Needle. When I went in April, there were some areas under construction because they are remodeling the building. So, the tickets were cheaper for us, you can click here to go to their website. Before getting into the elevator, you will walk through a hall filled with pictures that will tell you the story of the Space Needle; when and how it was built. When you get to the top it is breathtaking, you can see the whole city from there. It is one of those places that you will never forget.
  • First Starbucks store: I had the opportunity to visit the first Starbucks store, and it was such a fantastic experience. This little store is located in the heart of Seattle, and it is so small that people have to make lines outside of the store to get their delicious coffee. They tried to keep like it was in the past, you can even see the original logo on the walls. That’s the place where Gordon Bowker, Zev Siegl, and Jerry Baldwin began their journey and their dreams.
  • Gas Works Park: this incredible park was my first stop. My best friend lives a few miles away from it, and it is gorgeous. From here you can see the whole city. There is an old gas structure in the middle of the park (which is where the name came from), and people go and take pictures with it. It is a perfect spot to watch the sunset and chill for a while with your friends or even by yourself.
  • Downtown Seattle: one thing that I love about going to new cities is going to their downtown. This the heart of the city. Public transportation works really good, so if you don’t feel like renting a car or taking cabs, you can take the bus. There are even apps that will let you know what time the bus is coming and the stops. Downtown Seattle is enormous, you can find malls, stores like Macy’s, Walgreen, Starbucks, and much more. There are so many restaurants, and you can take the monorail to go to the space needle from over there. One of the things that impressed me the most was the Amazon spheres. They are located in the heart of Seattle, and its architecture is incredible. It is made entirely of glass, and it is filled with plants; employees have the opportunity to come here and work in a different environment, and the building is open to the public twice per month. I did not know before going there that Seattle is a tech city, companies like Amazon and Microsoft were born there. Fantastic, isn’t it?
  • Pike Place public market: one of my favorite places. This incredible public market is located in downtown Seattle. Here you can find pretty much anything you want. From flower sellers to clothing stores. If you are like me and you like to browse around and chat with the owners of the stores, you will have the time of your life. Here in the Pike Place is where the famous gum wall is located. Let me tell you, it is disgusting but at the same time, it is so cool how people have made so many things with gum. You can see promises, names, dates, and so many other things. It is an excellent place for pictures and if you want to make any pledge… just bring gum with you!

There are so many things that you can do in this beautiful city. Unfortunately, I did not have much time, and we went camping the next day after my arrival (which I will tell you about in another post). If you have the chance to visit this incredible city, please do. I am sure that you will love it as much as I did!
